Understanding the Tests and Their Relevance:
Blood Sugar Fasting
Blood Sugar Fasting Test determines the amount of glucose in the blood. It is mainly used as a test to screen people for prediabetes or Diabetes.
Thyroid Profile Test
Thyroid Function Tests are blood Tests done to measure Thyroid Hormone levels and indicates as to how well your thyroid gland is working. Available tests include the T3, T4, and TSH.
Liver Function Test
Liver Function test measures the levels of proteins, liver enzymes, or bilirubin in your blood and helps to determine the health of your liver.
The Liver Function Tests Helps to:
-Analyse and monitor how well are you responding to a particular treatment for people already Diagnosed with a Liver Disease.
-Liver Infections such as Hepatitis C
-Monitor the side effects of certain medications known to affect the liver
-Measure the degree of scarring (cirrhosis) on the liver
Kidney Function Test
Kidney Function Test or KFT as it is popularly known is a simple Blood and Urine Test that can identify problems with your Kidney.
You may also be required to go in for a kidney function test if you have other conditions that can potentially harm the kidneys, such as Diabetes or High blood pressure.
Electrolyte
An electrolyte panel is done to measure the blood levels of the main electrolytes in the body: sodium (NA+), chloride (CI-), potassium (K+), and ionised calcium (Ca++). An electrolyte panel is used to detect an electrolyte, fluid, or pH imbalance. It is usually carried out as a part of a physical examination. Electrolytes measurements are used to investigate conditions that cause electrolyte imbalances such as lung diseases, kidney disease, dehydration, or heart conditions. In many cases, an electrolyte test is also done to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment for an electrolyte or fluid imbalance.
Iron Studies (for Anemia Screening)
Iron studies include four tests namely: Total Iron Binding Capacity, Serum Iron, Transferrin Saturation, Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC) and Serum Transferrin. Iron Studies measures several substances in the blood to evaluate the amount of iron in the blood. The results of the test help to diagnose and monitor iron deficiency or iron overload.
Arthritis Screen (Bone Profile with RA-Factor)
Arthritis screen includes four tests: rheumatoid factor, phosphorus, calcium and alkaline phosphates. This test is done to screen for arthritis. Calcium test is done to measure the levels of calcium in the blood. Elevated levels of calcium are linked to bone diseases and vitamin D intoxication. A high level of phosphate is associated with bone disease. An elevated level of uric acid is linked to urinary stones. Rheumatoid arthritis factor test helps in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis.
Vital Vitamins Profile (B12 & D- 25 Hydroxy)
Vital vitamins Profile include two tests: Vitamin B12 test and Vitamin D Total. Vitamin D test, also known as 25-hydroxyvitamin D is done to measure the level of vitamin D in the blood. This test is done to detect if too much or too little vitamin D is causing bone weakness or other abnormalities. Many times, the vitamin D test is also done to see if the present treatment for vitamin D deficiency is working or not.
Vitamin B12 test is done to check the amount of vitamin B12 in the blood. Vitamin B12 test measures the levels of your overall vitamin B-12, methylmalonic acid (MMA), homocysteine and holotranscobalamin (holoTC). A doctor recommends the patient to go for a B-12 test if the patient has symptoms like tingling in the hands and feet, a racing heart, dementia, confusion, problems with balance, weakness and loss of appetite. Vitamin B12 test is also done to screen for pernicious amenia.
Urine Electrolytes (NA, K & C)
Urine electrolytes test is done to measure specific chemicals called electrolytes in urine. This test usually measures the levels of chloride, potassium and sodium.
Lipid Profile Test :
The Lipid Profile blood test measures cholesterol in your body. The Lipid Profile measures your Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, High-Density Lipoproteins (HDL also called "good cholesterol"), Low-Density Lipoproteins (LDL also called "bad cholesterol"), a ratio of Total Cholesterol to HDL and an estimated risk factor. Lipid profile Tests are essential for:
-People who are overweight
-Those with a history of heart Disease or High Cholesterol
-Alcohol Consumers, Chain Smokers
-People suffering from polycystic ovarian disease, Kidney Disease,
Diabetes, High blood pressure or Hypothyroid.
-Those Leading an inactive lifestyle.
CBC with ESR
Complete Blood Count(CBC ESR)-Hemogram profile gives important information about the numbers and kinds of cells in the blood, especially red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A Hemogram test helps your health professional check any symptoms, such as fatigue, weakness, or bruising, that you may have. A CBC also helps your health professional diagnose conditions, such as infection, anaemia, and several other disorders
Diabetes Monitoring Profile (with HbA1c)
Diabetes monitoring profile is done to monitor the blood sugar levels in the body and also helps to evaluate factors that affect the blood sugar levels. It consists of a host of clinical tests including urine glucose, HbA1c, urinary creatinine screen and microalbumin. HbA1c, also known as haemoglobin A1c, is a term related to diabetics. HbA1c Test is recommended for diabetic patients on a frequent basis because it shows the average blood sugar level over the past weeks or months and helps doctors to plan diabetic medicines for the patient. This test is also done to diagnose diabetes.
Complete Urine Analysis
This Test looks for Abnormalities in the urine. An Abnormal Result can be indicative of a number of Conditions including Kidney Disease, Urinary Tract Infection or elevated levels of substances which the body is trying to remove through the urine. It is extremely helpful in identifying potential Health Hazards even when a person may not experience any unusual symptoms.
Blood Group
Blood group testing is done to see what blood type the patient has. This test is done to see if the patient can safely donate your blood or receive a blood transfusion. This test is also done to see if the patient has Rh factor on the surface of the red blood cells.
Prostate Profile
The PSA test is done primarily to screen for prostate cancer. The test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in your blood. PSA is a protein produced by both cancerous and noncancerous tissue in the prostate, a small gland that sits below a man's bladder
Pancreatic Profile
The pancreas is the organ in your belly which helps to digest Food. If the Doctor thinks there could be something wrong-They may go in for Amylase or Lipase Test or both
An amylase test determines the level of amylase in your blood or the urine. Amylase is an enzyme, or a special protein, that helps you digest the food. Most of the amylase is made in the pancreas and salivary glands. A small amount of amylase in the blood and urine is normal
Likewise, certain levels of lipase are needed to maintain a normal digestive and cell function. Abnormally high levels of the enzyme in your blood can indicate a health problem. A serum lipase test measures the amount of lipase in the body.
Testosterone
Testosterone is the main sex hormone (androgen) in men and is responsible for male physical characteristics. This Test determines the level of testosterone in the blood.
It stimulates the development of secondary sex characteristics, including the growth of body hair, enlargement of the penis, muscle development, and a deepening voice. It is present in large amounts during puberty and in adult males to regulate the sex drive and maintain muscle mass.
