What is Metastatic Cancer?
Metastasis refers to the continuous spread of cancer cells to new areas of the body (usually by way of the lymph system or bloodstream). Metastatic cancer is a type of cancer which spreads from the primary site of origin into a different area(s) of the body. For instance, breast cancer that spreads to the lung is called metastatic breast cancer, not lung cancer. Metastatic breast cancer is treated as stage IV breast cancer, not as lung cancer.
What are the Symptoms of Metastatic Cancer?
It is not easy to notice the symptoms of metastatic cancer because it doesn’t always cause any direct discomfort. The symptoms of this cancer may or may not show depending on the type of cancer and location and size of metastases.
However, you must take note of symptoms like:
• Headaches
• Inflammation
• Vision problems
• Dizziness
• Unhealed pain and fractures
• Confusion
• Jaundice or inflammation in the abdominal area
• Shortness of breath
• Difficulty in movement
If you notice any of these signs & symptoms, then you must immediately consult a doctor and get a health checkup done.
Where Can Metastatic Cancer Spread in the Body?
Metastatic cancer can spread to different parts of the body. The primary sites where metastatic cancer can spread are bladder, breast, uterus, thyroid, melanoma, pancreas, and ovary. It can also move on to bone, lung, liver, and brain.

The treatment for this cancer depends on several factors. Some of the major factors that affect the treatment are:
• Primary cancer and its spot
• The extent of the spread of that cancer
• Age of the patient
The treatment of this cancer includes a type of chemotherapy, which may be replaced by another type if it doesn’t help in the treatment of the patient. The patient may also be administered chemotherapy along with surgery.
Is there a Cure for Metastatic Cancer?
In the majority of the cases, there is no cure for metastatic cancer. In some cases, cancer may be cured, but in most of the cases, it can only be slowed but not cured completely. However, the patient may live for months and years with metastatic cancer.
Cancer is a deadly disease, and though the symptoms of the cancer are not obvious, however, doctors say that if anyone witnesses any of the following changes, they must get themselves screen for cancer. The ‘seven warning signs’ are unexplained weight loss, persistent cough, blood coming from the mouth, or in urine, change in bowel habits, difficulty swallowing, slow healing of wounds, and a growing inflammation.
If you notice any of these signs & symptoms, consult a doctor right away. Also, go for a health checkup on a regular basis to keep health conditions at bay.
