It is a commonly known fact that a good metabolism aids weight loss and Deepika is blessed with it. She does not believe in having everything in one meal and eats 6 meals a day. But, she makes sure that her meals are rich in dietary fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, complex carbs, minerals and vitamins.

Like most of us, Deepika also craves for sweets quite often. She has a very good metabolic rate, and she says that in order to keep metabolism high, one needs to alter diet once in a week or two weeks. Deepika’s fitness routine is a blend of cardio, dance, yoga and weight training exercises. In an interview, Deepika said, “I do a lot of freehand weights and 4 to 5 sets of stretching exercises with ten to twenty reps in between Pilates or stretching routines. I do not particularly like running, and that is why I do not do a lot of traditional gym exercises. I try and exercise as often as I can, but when I am shooting or travelling, I skip it for days on end.”
Deepika’s fitness trainer is Yasmin Karachiwala who also introduced Deeps to Pilates and now Deepika just can’t live without doing Pilates. Have a look at Deepika’s workout regimen:
Yoga- Deepika wakes up at 6 AM and starts her day with yoga. She says that yoga has helped her improve her concentration and strength. She feels calm and active throughout the day after doing yoga. This long-legged beauty also believes that meditation, asanas and pranayama help in flushing toxins out of the body. In yoga, she does the following exercises:
• Surya Namaskar- 10 reps
• Marjarisana or Cat Pose
• Virabhadrasana or Warrier Pose
• Pranayama
• Meditation
• Sarvangasana or Shoulder Stand
Dance- Deepika loves to dance, and dance is a part of her fitness regime. She practices a different variety of dances such as Kathak, Bharat Natyam, Jazz and so on. She says that she enjoys dancing and the fact that dancing helps her burn calories makes her love dance even more.
Pilates and Stretching- A big thanks to Yasmin Karachiwala (Deepika’s fitness trainer) who made Deepika love Pilates so much. Deepika admits that doing pilates has helped her a lot in keeping her body in shape. It has strengthened her core, increased her flexibility and improved her posture. She uses several Pilates machine and props such as wunda chair, foam weights and resistance bands for her workout. Yasmin says, “We also have a jumping series of the Pilates, which is a combination of cardio and Pilates. Here, we do the walking lunges or jumping squat that may be accompanied by lightweights of a kilo or two. I also like to intersperse a minute or two of cardio between other routines.”Deepika keeps weight training to a minimum because she exercises daily and doing a lot of weight training can lead to soreness in the body.
Gym- Unlike other celebrities who love hitting the gym, Deepika is not a big fan of Gym. But, she hits the gym when she wants to change her workout routine. She also likes to go to the gym if she has a busy day or is travelling. She trains with light weights and like to tone up her thigh and calf muscles.
