Holi colours contain harmful chemicals, mica, glass particles and acids, which irritate the skin and scalp and can also harm them. They also affect the texture and make the skin and hair dry and rough. The skin and scalp absorb harmful substances, which can even lead to toxic accumulation in the body. To remove colours, rinse your face with a lot of plain water. Apply a cleansing cream or cleansing milk on your face and massage it. Wipe it off with moist cotton wool. Make a cleanser by yourself take half cup of cold milk and add a teaspoon of vegetable oil sesame seed (til) olive or sunflower oil. Mix well and dip cotton wool in it and clean the skin.
Massage sesame seed oil on your body to remove colours. This gives added protection to the skin and helps counteract sun damage. While bathing, scrub the body gently and apply a moisturiser while the skin is still damp, which helps seal in moisture.
Add two tablespoons of vinegar to a mug of water and use it as a last rinse. This helps reduce itching. But if the itching continues and there is a rash or redness, consult a doctor.

Beer can also be used as a last rinse. It will soften and condition the hair. Add lemon juice to it and pour it over your hair after you shampoo it. Leave it for a few minutes and then rinse with water.
After Holi, mix two tablespoons of honey with half a cup of curd, and a pinch of turmeric. Apply this to your face, neck and arms. Leave for 20 minutes before washing it off with water. This removes tan and softens the skin.
Mix a tablespoon of pure coconut oil with a teaspoon of castor oil. Heat and apply it on the hair. Dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap it like a turban. Keep it on for five minutes, and repeat the hot towel wrap three or four times. This helps the hair and scalp absorb the oil better. Wash your hair after an hour.
