Combination skin is the skin type in which one experiences oiliness and dryness both on their facial skin. Some parts of the face are dry and flaky while the T-zone that consists of the forehead, nose and chin are oily in nature. Combination skin leads to confusion over the choice of skincare products due to multiple skin problems of different types. Combination skin can exist by birth or may be caused by special factors. The causes vary from one person to another.
The skin around the forehead, nose and chin has more sebaceous glands than the rest of the face and are oilier. The use of salicylic acids and benzoyl peroxide products make the skin drier and stimulate the sebaceous glands further to secrete more oil. This leads to a combination of skin type in most people. It is important to treat the skin as much as it deserves especially when a single product is not sufficient for your skin type.
Combination skin type is difficult to manage because of the confusion over the type of skincare routine to be followed. The best solution to this problem is to use lightweight gels or oil-free moisturisers for the T-zone and a lotion moisturiser for the rest of the face. This will help you provide balanced and customised nourishment to your face. Following the right skincare, the routine will help in making the problem of dealing with combination skin problem simpler.
Here are a few steps to a Healthy Combination Skin.
1. Cleanse your skin with a gentle cleanser that suits all Skin Types
Cleansers that suit all types of skin don’t make your skin too dry and just clear excess oil, leaving your skin supple. If you have damaged skin with rosacea and dryness, a lotion-based cleanser will be a good idea. Do not use cleansers in bar form as they are always drying and irritating no matter what they claim to be.
2. Tone your skin well as it helps in shrinking pores and soothing Damaged Skin
Do not use toners that contain alcohol. Use natural toners like rose water or green tea solutions for toning your skin. They nourish and heal your skin without excessive dryness or oiliness.
3. Sunscreens are mandatory for all Skin types.
If you have sensitive skin then always opt for the sunscreens that have zinc oxide or titanium-di-oxide as the active ingredient. They both are healing and calms inflammations. Sunscreens maintain the health of your skin by protecting it from the UV rays of the sun.
4. Exfoliate regularly to remove Excess skin.
In combination skin, accumulation of dead skin in T-zone can lead to acne. It is important to exfoliate using gentle exfoliators like gram flour. Use of fruit-based exfoliators containing AHA is also a good idea as they gently scrub off your skin without harming the texture.
5. Choose good products that suit your Skin Type.
Combination skin is tough to treat and hence do not go for a product based on the hype or the superstar endorsing it.
Combination skin type is the most delicate type of skin type. A good diet followed by proper skincare routine, as suggested above can help you achieve healthy skin type or even restore the normal healthy balance of your skin.
